The Good Egg

The Good Egg

The Good Egg began as a stall at street food markets across London but is now a restaurant in Stoke Newington that serves a fantastic Middle Eastern-inspired brunch. The interesting, inventive menu includes lots of little plates ‘for the table’ – perfect for sharing and a great opportunity to try several dishes. With friendly staff and a relaxed, buzzy atmosphere, this neighbourhood gem is one to add to your list asap!

THE FOOD

SHAKSHUKA

Baked eggs with tomato, peppers & preserved lemon yoghurt. Add rare-breed mutton merguez and halloumi.

Hands down the best shakshuka I have ever eaten! The crusty pieces of bread sprinkled with za’atar were perfect for dipping into the thick, rich tomato sauce and creamy yoghurt. It was the addition of the golden, fried pieces of halloumi that really made this dish for me. With a crunchy exterior and almost rubbery interior, the chunks of halloumi added a salty hit that complemented the sweet roasted peppers and tomatoes. My only complaint is that the merguez sausages were lacking in taste and on the dry side, but overall the flavour combinations in this dish were excellent!

CHOCOLATE BABKA

This mouth-watering slice of babka tasted even better than it looked! The combination of the sticky chocolate filling and soft pillowy bread made it the perfect end to a fabulous brunch.
